Why God Allows Evil to Happen Why do bad things happen to good people? Furthermore, why do bad things happen in general? Here's why. The all knowing, all powerful and completely Holy God gave authority over this earth and everything in it, to mankind. He wouldn't be Holy anymore if he broke His word and took back that authority. Because God gave the earth to us humans, the only person who has the legal right to decide what happens in this world is us. However, like Adam, we are prone to sin. Once sin (any thought or action which misses the mark of perfection) entered the world through Adam, bad things started to happen and those bad things multiple over time. So it is mankind who is responsible for all the bad things going on around us and not God. However, God gave us dominion over the earth and he cannot go back on his word. In Genesis 1:28 God said, “Be Fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” So there you have it. Mankind was given total authority to do as he pleased with the earth and everything in it, whether to do good or to do evil. God put no exclusions on this covenant. I realize that many may think that God was speaking only to Adam here, and therefore only giving that authority to him but that is not true either. God gave this authority to all mankind to do good or evil, limited only by our physical abilities. That authority is shared by you, me, and every other person, who breaths air on the planet. It is a shared authority over this material world while living in these earthly bodies. The bible confirms this in Psalms 115:16 when it says, “The heavens are the Lord’s; but the earth has he given to the children of men.” That's just another way of saying that this is shared authority passed down to all who are alive on the earth at any given time. The next time something bad happens, you may want to give this truth some thought, before blaming God. This bible truth can help us stop blaming God and start putting the blame squarely where it belongs, which is on the evil choices which we make. It's us, not God, who allows evil to spread throughout this world. "What about Satan?", one might ask. Well, okay, what about Satan? It is mankind who gives Satan his power or he would be powerless. Therefore the greatest perpetrator of evil on this earth is not Satan but mankind. Therefore, mankind will be the last to be judged by God at the Great White Throne of Judgment. Those, who's names are not found in the Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire with Satan. Those whose names are written in the Book of Life will then rule under the authority of King Jesus who is a man but also God. Since he is a man that gives him the authority under God to rule on earth. Since He is also God that gives him the ability to deal with sin once and for all. And so He has, and is in the process of establishing His perfect rule throughout the world. This is the time for us to choose whether we want to submit to Him, King Jesus, or continue to rule and reign ourselves. Our way is the way of death. His is the way to life. Wayne Wade10-03-2024 |
